Let’s start with some of the broader questions you might want to know before diving into specific rides…
What Are the Best Rides at Epic Universe?
I’d say there are six must-do rides are Epic Universe:
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
Stardust Racers
Monsters Unchained
Mine-Cart Madness
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
I discuss all of these more below.
How many rides Does Epic Universe Have?
Epic Universe has 11 rides This guide includes those 11, plus two shows.
What kind of rides Does Epic Universe have?
There are four coasters, three motion simulation rides, one other thrill ride, one water-blaster boat ride, one kiddie dark ride, and one carousel. This post also includes two shows and a playground.
What Are the height requirements at Epic Universe?
Height requirements for specific rides are listed later in the post, but here are the ride counts at each height for Epic Universe:
None — 2 rides
34” (86.36 cm) — 1 ride
36” (92 cm) — 1 ride
40” (102 cm) — 4 rides
48” (122 cm) — 3 rides
Our Universal Orlando Height Requirement Guide has been updated to include Epic Universe, too.
Does Epic Universe have single rider lines?
Yes. Select rides have single rider lines, and I’ve noted them throughout this post. These are subject to change and to availability / capacity.
Does Epic Universe have Early Park Admission?
Epic Universe is included in Early Park Admission on select days. (As of this June 2025 update, those select days are every day through the end of the year.)
Does Epic Universe have Universal Express Pass?
Epic Universe offers Express Pass. We have indicated which rides have Express Pass below, and I reviewed our time with Universal Express Pass at Epic Universe here.
Celestial Park (2 rides)
Celestial Park is the hub land. You’ll enter the park into this land and access the other lands through the “portals” attached to this hub land. There are two rides.
Stardust Racers
Height Requirement: 48” (122 cm)
Attraction Type: Coaster
Single Rider: Yes
Express Pass: Yes
Stardust Racers is a dueling coaster and the flagship outdoor coaster of the park. If you’re looking for straight up roller coaster thrills (it reaches 62 miles per hour!), this is undeniably the ride for you.
Waits for Stardust Racers tend to plateau at a reasonable level (relative to the high quality of the ride) pretty early. You’ll have to do some waiting, but with its hub location you don’t need to stress too much about timing this one.
Constellation Carousel
Height Requirement: None
Attraction Type: Carousel
Single Rider: No
Express Pass: Yes
Constellation Carousel is a whimsical take on the carousel. I found it to be a bit one-the-nose and ostentatious in a park called “Epic Universe.” But kids (particularly) who enjoy carousels should find the extra motion of this one to be something special. It’s low-capacity, so bring your patience when you get in line.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic (1 Ride, 1 Show)
Ministry of Magic is a Wizarding World land set in Paris. There is one ride, one show, and a variety of shops, restaurants, and spell-casting locations.
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
Height Requirement: 40” (102 cm)
Attraction Type: Thrill, Motion Simulation
Single Rider: Yes
Express Pass: No
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is a thrilling motion simulation attraction that sees you joining Harry Potter in, well, a wizard battle at the Ministry of Magic. While the ride relies heavily on screens, I have to say I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the scenes. Someone with less-than-perfect vision could easily confuse the actual animatronics in some scenes with the screen-based elements. While it doesn’t break new ground in terms of style, it’s unquestionably the best execution of screenz-based thrill I’ve seen.
There are several strategies for riding Battle at the Ministry. Some guests head there first, wait even if it doesn’t open on time, and get it taken care of. Or you can save it for late—just be sure to get in line before it hits “capacity”, which can happen before the park closes.
Le Cirque Arcanus
Height Requirement: None
Attraction Type: Show
Express Pass: Yes
Le Cirque Arcanus is a 20-minute circus-themed stage show with puppets (magical creatures), circus performers, and special effects. It’s a good show and definitely worth getting into one of the performances during your time in Wizarding World.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD (3 Rides)
Super Nintendo World is sort of a pair of two mini-lands. The first (and more famous) is the main area, themed to Super Mario. This is where you’ll find the two Mario rides, along with a ton of interactive elements. Then, in the back of the land is another portal that leads to Donkey Kong Country, home to Mine-Cart Madness.
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
Height Requirement: 40” (102 cm)
Attraction Type: VR / Motion Simulation
Single Rider: Yes
Express Pass: Yes
I have to confess…I didn’t really “get” Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. It seemed more like a prototype of a ride than something I’d actually pay to experience. It’s a dark ride with augmented reality via a set of glasses you wear during the ride. I think if people say it was really cool you should believe them, but I just didn’t get that effect.
Mario Kart can make sense as one of your first two rides if you have Early Admission (it’s usually included). It sees some of the highest waits in the park midday, so consider riding late when waits tend to dip a little. It’s got a great queue, so the wait at least isn’t a bad experience.
Mine-Cart Madness with Donkey Kong
Height Requirement: 36” (92 cm)
Attraction Type: Coaster
Single Rider: Yes
Express Pass: No
Mine-Cart Madness is a fun Donkey Kong themed coaster with a “jumping track” illusion throughout. It was wild fun and easily one of my three favorite rides in the park. Zoe didn’t stop talking about the broken tracks for the rest of the day.
As with Mario Kart, you want to try and get this one in during Early Admission if possible. The queue is good, but not as good as Mario Kart. That said, I greatly prefer this ride, so it’s my go-to first thing in the day.
Yoshi’s Adventure
Height Requirement: 34” (86.36 cm)
Attraction Type: Kiddie
Single Rider: No
Express Pass: Yes
Yoshi’s Adventure is a simple dark ride (but mostly outdoors) through Super Nintendo World. It feels a bit underdone, and the traditional hook for a dark ride—you get to travel through [favorite made up world]—is undercut because you’ll already be spending a lot more enjoyable and interactive time exploring Super Nintendo World. I wouldn’t force it into your day—ride it if the wait makes sense while you’re enjoying time in the land.
How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk (3 Rides, 1 Show, 1 Playground)
Isle of Berk is the land themed to How to Train Your Dragon. It’s got two thrill rides and one fun-for-all-ages attraction, plus a show. There’s also a Meet Toothless character greeting that’s quite popular.
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
Height Requirement: 40” (102cm)
Attraction Type: Coaster
Single Rider: No*
Express Pass: Yes
There are two “thrill” rides in Isle of Berk. Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is the roller coaster. It can be confusing to remember these names, because Dragon Racer’s Rally (not the coaster) is the one that looks like you’ve got “wing gliders” and Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is the one that looks like you’re “racing” through the land. So, just remember these names are counterintuitive (or, to you, they weren’t, and now I’ve broken your brain with this nonsense).
Anyway, Hiccup’s is a super fun coaster, great for kids (40” height requirement) and adults. This was one of the rides that surprised us most in the park—a definite must-ride.
*Note: Hiccup’s Wing Gliders was at some point listed as having single rider. I’m not sure if it was ever available, but it might be worth checking on this one just in case.
The Untrainable Dragon
Height Requirement: None
Attraction Type: Show
Express Pass: Yes
The Untrainable Dragon is a 20-minute show starring Hiccup, Toothless, and co. It’s a good mix of screen effects and some ambitious practical effects. It’s worth taking the time to see, and arguably a better experience than two of the rides in the land.
Dragon Racer’s Rally
Height Requirement: 48” (122 cm)
Attraction Type: Flying Thrill Ride
Single Rider: No
Express Pass: No
The “other” thrill ride in Isle of Berk is Dragon Racer’s Rally. This is the one that looks like you’re “flying” attached to a dragon. You can theoretically control the amount of motion by moving the wings while you ride. I approached it cautiously but even as the ride went on I wasn’t able to make much happen. Guests around me had mixed reviews, with at least a few saying it “went wild.”
If you happen to make it to Isle of Berk when waits are short, go for it. Personally, I’d punt this one to later in the day if the wait is over 20 minutes.
Fyre Drill
Height Requirement: None
Attraction Type: Water / Water Blaster
Single Rider: No
Express Pass: Yes
Fyre Drill is a water-blaster boat ride. You ride around a small course blasting water targets and enjoying getting soaked yourself. We found that it has too low capacity—and thus too long waits—for what it offers.
Viking Training Camp
Height Requirement: None
Attraction Type: Playground
Viking Training Camp is a fun playground for younger kids. I’ve been impressed by Universal’s offerings for active kids recently, and Viking Training Camp continues that trend. Zoe had a ton of fun here—it was even pretty well-shaded in the heat.
Dark Universe (2 Rides)
Dark Universe is the land themed to classic monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, Werewolf, Invisible Man, and more).
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
Height Requirement: 48” (122 cm)
Attraction Type: Motion Simulation
Single Rider: Yes
Express Pass: Yes
Monsters Unchained is a fantastic attraction from beginning to end. The outside design is great. The queue is one of the best I’ve seen, maybe the best outside Wizarding World. The ride experience is thrilling fun. The ride design is basically the same as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, but somehow this one didn’t make me lose my lunch (I barely ever ride Forbidden Journey anymore).
With a great queue and reasonable waits, this isn’t one you have to force into your day. As long as it’s under 60 minutes (it usually is), I’d be happy waiting for this one.
Curse of the Werewolf
Height Requirement: 40” (102 cm)
Attraction Type: Coaster
Single Rider: Yes
Express Pass: Yes
Curse of the Werewolf is a short spinning coaster. I found it a bit lacking in oomph, and even Zoe commented on it leaving a bit to be desired. It’s still a fun enough ride, but it feels like “fill” in a park with coasters that otherwise really shine.
