Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Coaster Coming to Universal Studios Florida

NBCUniversal announced two big changes coming to Universal Studios Florida, one of the three parks at Universal Orlando Resort.

The first—and more notable—is that the Rip Ride Rockit replacement has been unveiled as Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. The new coaster is set to have its Universal Studios Florida debut in 2027.

I specifically said Florida debut, because Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will actually have its debut at Universal Studios Hollywood sometime in 2026. The Hollywood build is currently testing (spoiler alert).

Universal apparently likes what they’ve seen in Intamin’s design, and they decided to bring the same coaster to Florida, too. This means we’ll have an idea of what to expect from the coaster before its Florida debut.

Part of the queue for Fast & Furious: Supercharged

The second, related, change is that Fast & Furious: Supercharged, the current Fast & Furious ride at Universal Studios Florida, will permanently close sometime in 2027.

Fast & Furious: Supercharged gets something of a bad rap, but it’s really more a victim of circumstance. At the time of its debut the ride was yet another screen-based attraction at a Universal park, and we can all agree it isn’t the best one. But it’s also not significantly below the median screen ride, in my opinion.

Of course, this is overall great news for Universal Studios Florida. It was a given that they’d replace Rip Ride Rockit, and keeping a popular IP in play while simultaneously freeing up some real estate for future development is a win-win.

Big picture, this is a relatively small piece of what looks to be a supercharged (heh) era of theme park wars. Disney has four new lands in the works, and we know Universal has a lot planned as well, including Epic Universe expansion.
