In a move that follows similar changes coming to Disneyland Paris, Disney has updated the web page for EPCOT’s Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure with the following note:
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will experience a short downtime Nov. 10-13, 2025 and will return with enhanced digital visuals and clearer imagery projected in 2D. Remy’s fans will spot new props and lighting enhancements when they are added to the queue and attraction over the next few months.
Since this change was already announced for the Disneyland Paris version of the ride—Ratatouille: L'Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy—it’s not surprising to see it happening in EPCOT too.
Overall, I expect this will be a positive change. For starters, it seems to be driven by guest feedback. In the announcement about the changes at Paris, Disney said the change was partly a result of “several months of testing and guest surveys.”
But also, I’ve always found the 3D element to be a bit unnecessary. Consider, for example how effective at immersion Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is without 3D glasses. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure won’t ever be Runaway Railway (even with some set enhancements), but I don’t think I’ll fret over losing 3D, particularly if the 2D imagery is actually clearer, which shouldn’t be too hard.
By the time Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure debuted in EPCOT in 2021, the Paris version of the ride was 7 years old. I’ve never noted major differences between the rides, and I think by 2021 the technology was pretty clearly dated. If the upgrades include modern, crisp imagery, this should be a clear win.
I’d also note that having 3D glasses on a ride without height requirements has always struck me as a bit odd. You can bring a small child on the ride, but either they’ll have crossed vision the whole time or you’ll have to fight with them to keep the glasses on.
Yes, I know some childfree adults going “around the world” are hopping into the world of Ratatouille, but it’s fair to say the target demographic for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is not the same as, say, Transformers: The Ride – 3D (at Universal Studios Florida), where the 3D has more value putting you in the middle of the action.
Finally, recall this isn’t the only family-friendly update on the docket for EPCOT. Frozen Ever After will be getting new animatronics in early 2026. Both of these are welcome updates at EPCOT, IMHO. Notably, EPCOT is the only park not getting a new land anytime soon, and at least some aspects of the recent years-long overhaul have been a bit disappointing. It’s nice to see the park getting some love in small increments, at least.
Are you excited for the changes to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure?
