This post is a quick guide to Slinky Dog Dash, but we have related content that dives deeper into topics. Our Hollywood Studios Lightning Lane post covers Lightning Lane strategy in depth. The Hollywood Studios Rides and Entertainment Guide gives brief introductions to all the park’s offerings. For putting together your day at the park, we have a One Day Plan for Hollywood Studios.
And if you want to dive into more about the other rides at Hollywood Studios, we have guides to each:
Slinky Dog Dash Basics
Slinky Dog Dash is a roller coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. The ride
offers rider switch
is a Tier 1 ride on Lightning Lane Multi Pass
does not have a single rider line
is about 3 minutes long
Disney warns that expectant mothers should not ride.
If you’re visiting Hollywood Studios with small children you’ll need to mind the 38 inch height requirement. Toy Story Mania (no height requirement), Alien Swirling Saucers (32 in), and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (no height requirement) are options nearby for your rider under 38 inches.
Where is Slinky Dog Dash located?
Slinky Dog Dash is located in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios. Entering the park, you’ll walk straight to the hub (where the Chinese Theater with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is). From the hub, facing the theater, you want to head right and forward, to the back corner of the park (if you wind up at Star Wars Launch Bay, you went right too hard).
Slinky Dog Dash is prominent as you walk into Toy Story Land. Entering the land from this side, you’ll have Slinky Dog Dash along the right and can just follow that side to the ride entrance.
If you’re riding it first at rope drop, guests will typically be held just outside of Toy Story Land and queued quickly along the righthand side once Cast Members start walking them in.
How to Ride Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash is one of the two most popular rides in the park (Rise of the Resistance), so you’ll need a plan for getting on it. Here’s how we break it down…
If you have Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you’ll ideally use your initial tier 1 slot for Slinky Dog Dash. These days I’ll usually take any time I can get, but earlier is better, and you may decide you don’t want to just sit on a 7PM reservation all day long (you can try and modify it throughout the day—that’s what I usually do).
If you don’t have Lightning Lane Multi Pass, or if you can’t get a good time for Slinky Dog Dash, you’ll ideally ride it first during Early Entry. This means waking up early and trying to be one of the first guests at the park, because Slinky Dog Dash regularly opens with hour-plus waits.
If you don’t have Early Entry you really should buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Even if you can’t initially book Slinky Dog Dash when your window opens, you’ll have a chance at nabbing it later and, if you don’t, the time savings will allow you to fit it into your day more easily.
Otherwise your only option is going to be a midday standby wait. If you’re willing to miss the evening shows at the park, getting in line late in the day before close is a fine option, as the ride is awesome at night.
The Best Views in Andy’s Backyard
Slinky Dog Dash is an outdoor family roller coaster. It doesn’t go upside down or do anything too thrilling, though it is a lot of fun. It also offers spectacular views of the park. It’s about three minutes long.
Personally, I absolutely love this ride. I think the playful theming does a great job of bringing out the kid inside. The ride experience itself is incredibly smooth and scenic. There have been times on it where I spent most of my time just taking in the different views.
It’s tame enough to work for relatively young kids, but its length, bounciness, dual launch, and few relatively exciting parts will make sure adults remember they’re on a coaster, too. It isn’t “thrilling” for most guests, but it its pretty dang fun.

Slinky Dog Dash FAQ
How fast is Slinky Dog Dash?
Slinky Dog Dash goes up to 40 mph.
Is Slinky Dog Dash Scary?
No. Of course if you have a general fear of any coaster, then Slinky Dog Dash will probably scare you. But while this isn’t a “kiddie” coaster, it really does fit the bill of “family” coaster. It’s entirely outdoors, so there aren’t any huge surprises, and it’s a very smooth ride without any upside downs or anything too fancy.
Does Slinky Dog Dash go upside down?
No, Slinky Dog Dash does not go upside down.
Why is Slinky Dog Dash so popular?
Slinky Dog Dash is a great ride with a popular theme (Toy Story). It’s one of my favorite rides at Disney World, and I’m an adult with no particular attachment to Toy Story. It’s a smooth, fun coaster that offers great views of the park. For many kids, it will be the first coaster they’re tall enough to ride (Magic Kingdom’s Barnstormer has a lower height requirement, 35 inches, though).
